Chelsea legend Claude Makelele has left his role as the club's technical mentor.

WHAT HAPPENED?
The former Blues star made 217 appearances for the club during his time as a player and returned in 2019 in an overseeing role. Makelele was working with individual academy players and those who were out on loan.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Reports suggest that Makelele has reached a mutual agreement with the Stamford Bridge club to depart as a technical mentor. He played in a Chelsea Legends game earlier this month, but the 50-year-old had left the club prior to the fixture.

Makelele has worked in several dugouts since his retirement in 2011. He has managed Bastia and Eupen, and been an assistant manager at both Paris Saint-Germain and Swansea City; Makelele has also been a technical director at AS Monaco.
